Dinner For Two
Maybe, because they weren’t invited to Charlie Brown’s house or his grandmother’s condominium, Lucy and Schroeder had a quiet Thanksgiving dinner alone.
Just the two of them at Schroeder’s piano, playing and singing and munching on salad, mashed potatoes, dinner rolls and pumpkin pie. Schroeder would play Cast Your Fate To The Wind and Fur Elise and then dabble with some Christmas music just for fun as Lucy smiled and snapped her fingers and maybe played a few tunes as well.
A quiet Thanksgiving dinner for these two kids caught in a laboring little love affair.
Lucy and Schroeder would also, we think, remember President Kennedy and Schroeder would play High Hopes.
Then, late in the night when the candles had burned low, Patty, Shermy, Frieda, Violet, Pig-Pen, Joe Shlabotnik, 3, 4 and 5 would all come over. And, before everyone went to bed, Charlie Brown and Linus, Snoopy, Woodstock, Franklin, Marcie and Peppermint Patty would be there, too.
And it would be a beautiful Thanksgiving full of cookies and laughter and a flake of snow that the children would not see but would know is there.
And Schroeder and Lucy would wink at each other.
And be thankful. –TK
