The Mothman Cookies
December 18, 2019
Burnt Offerings
The plan was to watch one of the best Christmas movies of the 21st century, The Mothman Prophecies, while baking Christmas cookies.
It was a good plan because in the movie Laura Linney bakes cookies and that has nothing to do with the rest of the film which is about Christmas, death, denial, monsters and other nutty stuff but still, she bakes cookies.
Laura Linney didn’t burn her cookies because she’s Laura Linney and Richard Gere probably would have saved the cookies from being burnt even if she had because he’s Richard Gere and did we mention that The Mothman Prophecies is romantic, frightening, eerie, sad and wonderful?
The Mothman doesn’t necessarily know more than we do, the movie tells us, even though he can predict the future., particularly the bad stuff. But the Mothman can see a bit further down the road. He can see the oven is on too high, he can see too much vegan butter, he can see that someone is probably spending too much time concentrating on the movie and not enough time on the cookies, damn you all.
Perhaps next Christmas the cookies should be made before the movie. The Mothman Prophecies deserves better than our late night burnt offerings. It deserves praise from the people, the attention of Santa and all the best and unburnt things Christmas has to offer. --TK
