The Musical Aftermath
Santa Claus is exhausted.
She got home just after dawn on Christmas Day and the party has been nonstop ever since.
Jazz, disco, rock, classical, folk, soul, a cappella, Coca-Cola, Pepsi, bread, fireworks, democracy, Christianity, Buddha, Burt Reynolds, basketball, and bad acting.
And that was only before lunch.
“The only good thing about Christmas being over,” Santa says to someone sharing her bed, “besides getting more rest, is that you can listen to whatever music you want.”
“No more Christmas music for a while, huh?” Her co-sleeper asks.
“No,” Santa says with her luminous 3,000 year smile. “No.”
Santa drops the needle on a scratchy record and the soft, deliberate sounds of the Lumineers evaporate across the room as Santa and her lover embrace in the cold winter night. --TK
