Christmas Spin
Willow Birdcount is at the record store, the only record store left in town. It’s actually not “left” because it opened long after the other record stores said goodbye.
Liberation Vinyl has been faring well as the only place to buy actual vinyl records, cassettes, VHS tapes, CD’s, even a few eight tracks. Willow loves to look around and touch the old vinyl, feel the albums, admire the cover art, hold something real in her hands.
Her sister, Annalee, has asked her to find as many Christmas 45s as possible because the girls and their Mom and brother are getting their Dad a surprise for Christmas. That old AMI Jukebox that’s been sitting in the garage for God knows how long? They are getting it fixed, completely restored.
They found a man who knows how to do that kind of stuff and they’ve arranged to sneak him into the garage on days when Dad is not around. He has a beard, long hair, strong hands. A gritty Santa Claus. And he has worked wonders with the old jukebox and now it’s almost ready. They’ll roll it into the basement on Christmas Day.
But they’ll need records. Lots of Christmas records. 45s. They need as many Christmas records as Willow can find. Not online. At the record store. Whatever Liberation Vinyl has to offer. Whatever old records another family gave up from another record player, another Christmas, another time, another place, spinning around like the words on a .45, over and over, singing a creaky Christmas song.
Spilling through the years. --TK
