In Season

The oranges arrived in plenty of time for Christmas.

They were in a big box and they taste great and the old man ate at least three of them while someone else finished decorating the tree and hung up the Christmas stockings on the banister.

Not all of the stockings are there any more. Some are gone. Many of the ornaments are gone, too.

But some ornaments are new.

And the oranges are fresh, even after their long trip.

The old man knows the snow is coming. And then the blistering, dangerous cold which is expected to choke the city through Christmas. And maybe much longer.

But the oranges are nearly perfect. --TK
