Santa’s Children
Santa’s children made a mess of the Dollar Tree store three days before Christmas. There was stuff all over the already filthy floors that looked like they rarely see a mop.
The Dollar Tree store sells a lot of things for $1.25 now but the sentiment has not wavered. Here, one can buy very cheap things. Imagine someone walking in with a $50 bill and walking out with nearly fifty things.
Candy bars, gum, crayons, coloring books, bowls, cups, tiny Christmas trees, can all be had for a bargain price except it’s really no bargain at all. Everyone gets exactly what they pay for.
If they’re lucky.
We have an armful of Christmas-themed tins. They’re cute. They will be able to hold things for many Christmases to come. If many is less than ten.
We didn’t bother grabbing a basket when we walked in because we are not supposed to actually shop at the Dollar Tree. We just grab one or two things but it ended up being six Christmas tins to be exact and so we had to juggle them a bit while waiting in the checkout line behind the family whose (father?) did indeed whip out a $50 bill and did not receive much change and while he was paying the (mother?) turned to us and offered her basket.
And it made things a bit easier as we stood among the bargain shoppers with their holiday haul three days before Christmas.
We said thank you and paid for our things, and walked home in the rain, the lights of the Dollar Tree glowing like a God behind us. --TK
